spacing, and the disease, insect,
and weather conditions that occur
in a given year.
To help farmers make the right
choices, University ot Delaware
associate scientist Ed Wisk con
ducts soybean variety trials under
the various conditions growers
face. His plots will be on view at Ag
Progress Day at the Newark
Experimental Farm on Wed
nesday, August 5, from 4 p.n, until
8.30 pm.
A week later farmers can tour
the soybean plots and other
research demonstration plots at
the University’s Georgetown

in another test, Wisk is trying
out 45 soybean varieties on tour
soil types around the state.
Besides the plots on the silt loam
soil at Newark and the sandy soil
at Georgetown, he also has plots on
the tarms ot two cooperating
tarmers, Clitt Murray ot
Selbyville, on high orgamc matter
soil, and Joe Hughes, ot Felton, on
a sandy loam sod.
In other work, Wisk is looking at
the interactions ot row spacing,
planting date and soybean
varieties at Newark and
Georgetown. He’s comparing ten
varieties, including some new
ones, planted either during the
tirst week ot June or the second
week ot July, at 7, 14 and 28-mch
row spacmgs.
Visitors to the Georgetown Farm
and Home Field Day can also get a
tirst-hand look at a semi-dwart
soybean variety, Pixie, and some
green seeded vegetable strains.
