LANCASTER COUNTY - It’s
the heart of the busy season tor
fieldwork
Cutting, picking, harvesting,
balmg or topping leave little tune
to appreciate the intrinsic beauty
formed both by man and nature in
harvested fields and those still
growing.
And working out m the fields’
midst, it’s also sometimes hard to
see the forest for the trees.
Stretching to its highest growth
Man & nature paint pastoral patterns
levels in many a year and already
tasseled, corn reaches toward the
puffy clouded sky.
In some fields the tasseled
skyline is unbroken and stretches
oft toward the horizon. Elsewhere,
floating above the sea of un
dulating green are manmade
forms, such as a windmill, spin
ning squeakily in the breeze, or the
rounded dome of a silo.
Closeup, the shaved face of a
wheat field resembles a huge
upsidedown broom.

In another held, heavy im
plements have lett their marks
with tracks baked in the hard
ground by a dry spell that has
tollowed the recent heavy rains.
And crisscrossing yet another
held are the shadowy trails lett by
the harvesting machines.
Thus man and nature not only
combine ettorts to bring torth the
truits ot the farm helds, but they
cooperate also to produce some
interesting pastoral patterns
across the bountitul countryside.
