And cats are called curious
BY DICK ANGLESTEIN
LANCASTER The curiosity ot
farm cats is legendary.
But dairy animals are no
slouches either at sticking their
noses into the darndest situations,
too.
Just look at some of these photos
submitted in the recent Dairy
Month Photo Contest.
The curiosity of the cow in the
upper left photo is attracting quite
a crowd with her new type of
headgear.
Perhaps, she plans to engage in a
little game of barnyard butting.
Then too, it might be some new
OSHA regulation requiring a new
kind of protective headgear for all
cows being prepared for transport
to market.
Nat’l Food Safety meeting to be held
NEW YORK, N.Y. - A national
seminar on participation by the
United States in the Codex
Alunentanus Commission will be
held September 15 and 16 at the
U.S. Department of Agriculture
headquarters building in
Washington, D.C.
The Codex commission works to
develop international food stan
dards that will promote world-wide
food safety and international trade
in food products, according to
I'he cow on me leu in the pnoto
appears to be saying
■Weil, this is another fine mess
you’ve gotten yourself into.”
And the helpful cow on the right
is either trying to help get the new
hat off or push it on even farther.
The photo was submitted by
Lesley Davis, ot Chestnut Lane
Farm, Earleville, Md.
The top right photo shows
another cow trying to "drum” up a
little sympathy for her situation.
Now, I’ve heard of the western
wear craze, including 10-gallon
hats, but a 50-gallon hat is showing
off just a bit. And she’s not even a
Texas cow.

shows, it’s easier to get things over
your head when you’re younger.
This young heiter, as
photographed by Kenneth C.
Morrow, Rl, Loysviile, has a
white-walled necklace to show ott
to all ot the other girls in the
pasture.
Finally, this Nubian-Alpine cross
will likely never go hungry or
thirsty.
Wherever she goes, she carries
her teed and water bucket with
her.
This photo was sent in by Debbie
Burkholder, ot R 2, Denver.
Our thanks to these
photographers for sharing their
curious moments with us. And an
overall thank you to all who en
