Although bidding stalled around $ll,OOO, Fisher-Place Baltimore, the top-selling animal finally sold for $70,000 to Jackson Enterprises from Clayton, Ohio. Franklin Place and Phillip Fisher of Wapakoneta, Ohio consigned the 6- month-old Valiant son. The bull’s full-sister, Fisher- Place M Amanda was the fourth highest seller at $44,000. The heifer was also purchased by Jackson Enterprises. The sale, which closed out the 96th Annual National Holstein Convention in Baltimore, began on a sad note. Donald J. Arthur, of Laceyville, Pennsylvania, owner of the 62nd consignment, was killed in a tractor accident two days before the sale. His 4-year-old cow, Braintrim B C Goldie sold first at $29,000 to Ronald Meek of Sher boun, N.Y. “We felt it would be an honor to sell his (Arthur) consignment first,” Remsburg explained. In addition to Arthur’s animal which sold first, three other Pennsylvania consignments brought above average prices. Plushanski Badger, a Boot maker son from Plushanski Farms in Kutztown sold for $21,000 to Jackson Enterprises. Melody-Air Needel Bunny Liz, consigned by Pen-Col Farm, Millville sold for $16,000 to Leo Rabinovitz of Winthrop, Mass.
