The bill, the "Child Passenger Protection Act,” would require that drivers secure child passengers weighing less than 40 pounds or younger than 4 years in a child passenger restraint system which meets federal motor vehicle safety standards. Drivers who fail to do this would be guilty of reckless endangerment of the child passenger and could be subject to a fine of $25. The proposed legislation was recommended by the Interagency Task Force on Highway Safety for Children formed by Governor Thornburgh m 1979. The task force mcluded representatives from state government, the medical community, and the private sector. Dr. Mark D. Widome, spokesman tor PaAAP, said. wfic AMUMia inm MS WI V KR - Melvin Arrington, Carroll; Fit ting & Showing, Sr. & Grand Champion - Jeff Hockenberry, Washington. Pennsylvania pediatricians and, indeed, all concerned state citizens are looking forward to favorable ac tion on this bill by the state House.” Dr. Widorae, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and chairman of the Pennsylvania Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics, Poison and Accident Prevention Committee, had testified on behalf of the bill when it was being con sidered by the Senate. He pointed out in his testimony that automobile crashes are the leading cause of death for children in the Commonwealth and that fewer than one child in twelve is being provided the protection of a well designed and properly used child restraint device. He also stressed that studies have demonstrated that child passenger deaths and injuries are largely preventable. Q® Specially forged one-piece chain links measure 7-and a half inches, and weigh over 2 pounds. Heavy concentrations of metal at pull points and extra rugged hooks give Berg Chain Links up to a ton and a half more pull strength than other designs. No wonder gutter chains in the first Berg installations show so little wear after years of daily operation. No wonder so many farmers call for Berg when it's lime for replacement. Berg chains and flites will fit all other barn cleaners.
