***—Uncaster Fanning, Friday, July 3, 1981 NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Recently, a major shipment of livestock and equipment left Steward Airport here bound for Cameroon, in West Africa. The shipment included 85 head of cattle, 61 goats, 56 sheep, 35 pigs, 51 rabbits and 1,100 day old chicks. Heifer Project staff in Cameroon, working in conjunction with the Institute of Animal Pastoral Research of the Gover nment of Cameroon, will receive all these animals and care for them through a period of quarantine, after which most will be distributed to needy farmers in the countryside. The purpose of the project is to provide a system through which small, limited-resource farmers, whose main source of income is derived from fanning, can benefit from the development of improved Broiler placements up HARRISBURG Placements of broiler chicks in the Com monwealth during the week ending June 20 were 2,313,000, according to the Pennsylvania Crop Reporting Service. Prior to Heifer Project’s in volvement in Cameroon, all milk had to be imported, and was too expensive to be available to the average person in Cameroon. Through shipments in 1976 and earlier, a small dairy industry has been started, and many people are able to enjoy the benefits of having fresh, whole milk m their diets. The cattle that just have been sent will help to expand the dairy program and increase milk production.
