By now I would suppose most
families have settled down to a
summer schedule.
For some it means lazy af
ternoons by a swimming pool while
for"others it means busy days spent
harvesting from garden and field.
This year we picked almost 300
quart of strawberries and over 100
quart of sugar peas.
If there are children in the
household with summer jobs, then
the pace becomes even more
hectic. Our own two students do not
see each other from one weekend
to the next. One leaves for
Harrisburg at-an early hour of the
morning while the other works the
midnight shift and comes home in
the wee hours of the morning.
Meals are something else that
must be changed to suit the
summer time table and served at
odd hours.
Vacations are an important part
of the freedom that warm weather
affords. One of our daughters just
July is peach month

National Peach Council President
Robert G. Kemp issued a
proclamation recently designating
July, 1981, as the second annual
National Peach Month.
This is in response to actions
taken at the NPC Board of
Directors meeting February 18 in
Phoenix, Arizona.
Although peaches are available
from April through October,
supplies of the Queen of fruit are at
a peak across the nation in July,
and the NPC Board decided to use
that' occasion id bring the quality of
this excellent summer fniit to the
attention of consumers over the
nation.

returned from a ten day business
trip to Luxembourg and had some
of the prettiest pictures I’ve ever
seen. I told her they should be on a
postcard. She particularly enjoyed
her weekend in Holland. It makes
me more enthusiastic as I look
forward to my tour of Europe next
month.
I’ve had a mini-vacation rec
ently as I traveled to Herahey with
some friends to see the treasures
recently retrieved from the sunken
Spanish galleon the “Concepcion”.
About 1640 when it sank, it con
tained 24 million dollars worth of
silver. The museum also contained
many things from Colonial times.
I’d also highly recommend
visiting Founders Hall which is
east of Hershey on Route 322 as it is
even more impressive from the
inside than from the outside. It’s
dome is the second highest in the
world.
I hope you can find time to enjoy
your summer.
Letters have been sent by NPC
President Kemp to President
Ronald Reagan and to the
governors of all peach producing
states asking them to join the
Council’s promotional efforts by
endorsing National Peach Month
in their respective states.
Key persons in each state have
also been asked to contact their
governors asking them for support
for the Peach Month proclamation.
Although some of the NPC 1981
promotion efforts will be directed
to National Peach Month, most of>
the materials produced for this can
be used for promotion throughout
the peach season.
