Best demand for steers early in week centered on YG 2-3 over 1150 lbs. with some lots carrying several good grade selling at or near the top of the market. In spite of sharp declines in the carcass beef trade, live cattle prices ranged higher for the week; as' Omaha terminal receipts numbered 36 pet less than a week ago and buyers were forced to compete actively for close-up slaughter needs. Choice steers 1100 lbs. and up and Choice heifers 950 lbs. and up again enjoyed the best demand. As lighter weight of ferings carrying a considerable percentage of good grades, con tinue to be present in increased numbers. Yield Grade 4-5 cattle present a minimal problem at this time.
