Lions Leader Dog Chairman
Paul - DeLong, congratulated
Lancaster County 4-H on its new
venture and said, “Leader dogs
provide independence and mobility
to those who are legally blind. ’ ’
He explained that the dogs will
be trained for 16 weeks at the
Leader Dog School and then will
work with a new master for 25-27
days. He pointed out that dogs
have personalities and the trainers
will learn that personality and then
try to match it with the personality
of the blind masters. There is no
upper age limit for those wishing to
get a leader dog, but masters
must be at least 16 so they and the '
dog can be matched according to
size.

But all the members of the
Mountville 4-H Club are par
ticipating in this growing ex
perience as they eagerly anticipate
reports and regular visits from the
puppies. It was announced that the
Club hopes to make the project an
annual one, and judging from the
response to the four friendly
puppies, there will be many
youngsters eager to make a home
for them and provide an important
part of the training in the Leader

Strickler, lola, Kansas, completes
a second term as president of the
Holstein Association at the
organization’s 96th National
Convention here this week.
Strickler, who is a veteran of
Holstein affairs, has served as vice
president of the dairy breed
organization. He was a director of
the national Holstein board from
1964 to 1972. He has also been
president of the Kansas Holstein
Association.
In 1978, Strickler was recognized
as Man of the Year at World Dairy
Expo, Madison, Wisconsin, where

Ivan Strickler completes term
as nat’l
Holstein president
he received a citation signed by
President Jimmy Carter. -
His many dairy interests have
included service as secretary of
the corporate board of Mid-
America Dairymen, the second
largest milk cooperative in the
country and president of the
National Dairy Shrine Club.
The Kansas dairyman is a
recipient of the Ford Foundation
Dairy Farm Efficiency Award. A
graduate of Kansas State
University, he had been named to
the Dairy Hall of Fame there.
Strickler manages a top herd of
120 registered Holsteins which

shows in this country.
He and his wife, Madge, have
three grown sons; Steven, Thomas
and Douglas.
As president, Strickler helped
determine policies for the largest
dairy breed association in the
world. Headquartered in Brat
tleboro, Vermont, the organization
registers nearly 300,000 Holsteins
each year and provides genetic
data and special assistance for
40,000 members.
