The contest was held in con junction with the Pennsylvania Agriculture Products Promotion Days sponsored by the Capital City Mall promotions department and the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Dietz’s winning entry from 23 contestants was “Francie’s Double Chocolate Torte,” featuring devil’s food cake, Pennsylvania eggs, heavy cream, sour cream, chocolate and raisins. Dietz was awarded a $5O gift certificate from Hess’s Department Store. Winning second place and a $25 gift certificate from Kinney Shoes was Mart Hall Miller of Carlisle. Miller’s recipe, “Butter Horns,” featured butter, sour cream, eggs and vanilla with a toppmg of egg whites, sugar, vanilla and grated nuts. “Pineapple Snow,” which can be served as either a dessert or a side dish for a mam meal, was the third place winner for Carol Rentschler of Carlisle. Rentschler received a $25 gift certificate from Music Fair for her entry. Bake in two greased and floured nine-inch pans as directed on package. Split each into layers (easier if cake is frozen).. Make filling by combining. 6 oz. chocolate morsels, melted 1 cup sour cream 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/2 cup chopped raisins plumped in 1 tablespoon rum Spread between and on top of layers.
