County Extension Director
on May 21.
In her new -position she is
responsible for coordinating the
entire Extension ' program in
Chester County. including
agriculture, family living, 4-H
community development. ShelHp"
succeeds Robert A. Powers who IK "
recently retired.
A native ' of Springfield,
Delaware County, Miss Dougherty
has been part of the Chester
County Extension staff since 1973.
Before Joining the Extension
Service she taught -home
economics at the Junior and senior
high school and college levels. She
served as home economics
department head in the Greater
(Sgg Harbor Regional School „
District and supervised student
teachers from Glassboro State
College.
She received bachelor and
master of science degrees in home
economics from Drexel Univer
sity, specializing in design and
education.
In Chester County, Miss
Dougherty has developed a strong
family resource management
program featuring money
management workshops as well as
family estate and pre-retirement
seminars for county residents. She
supervises seven part time home
economics assistants who conduct
home furnishings, clothing and
heritage crafts ' seminars
throughout the county.,
She has managed the Expanded
Foods and Education Program in
Chester County since 1973. In this
program, sponsored by the U.S.
r Department of Agriculture, Miss
Dougherty directs the work of four

newsletters, '“Prime Time,”
“Textile Topics,” and
“Homemakers’ Letter,” all
available on request, and in ad
dition conducts child development,
nutrition and home food preser
vation programs.
Miss Dougherty is active in both
the Pennsylvania and National
Associations of Extension Home
Economists, currently serving on
the National Exhibits Committee.
She is also involved in the Penn
sylvania and American Home
Economics Associations serving

THURMONT, Md. - The
Maryland State Grange Style
Review was held May 23 at the
Agricultural Center in West
minster, Maryland.
Miss Corlee Cutter, Howard
County Extension Agent, and Miss
Julia Ann Lockard, Baltimore
County Extension Agent, were the
judges. Edith Kilby of Calvert
Grange was the narrator.
Louisa Hott, director of women’s
activities for Maryland State
Grange announced the following
winners:
Class A - Adult Class
Ist Place, Rose Lechner; 2nd
Place, Elaine Dodd; 3rd Place,
Katheryn Naylor.
Class B - Teen Class
Ist Place, Michele Zollichoffer;
2nd Place, Jill Davis; 3rd Place,
Julia Garber.
Class C - Children’s Class
Ist Place, Lois Fulton; 2nd
-Place, Joan Meise; 3rd Place,
Dorothy Mann.
Class D • Boys and Girls

The Maryland State Grange Sewing Contest winners are
Kendra Fanconi, Laytonsville; Keith Fultdn of Beltsville
Grange; Michele Zollickoffer, Westminster; and Rose
Lechner. Winning garments were sent to Simplicity Pattern
Company in New York for the National Grange Sewing
Competition.
