A32—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, June 6,1981 HARRISBURG - Increased parking fees to finance higher premiums have been approved by the Pennsylvania Farm Show Commission. Farm Show parking will now cost $2.00 per car. In approving the doubling of the parking rate, the commission specified that much of the in creased revenues be devoted to hiking premiums at the show. Premiums were increased 15 percent across the board by the Commission, with an additional adjustment for beef cattle and maple symp. The premiums for beef cattle will be put on a par with those of dairy cattle and the maple syrup premiums will be brought more m line with those of honey. The Commission also took other action concerning various classes of judging and other phases of competition conducted at the Farm Show. New quotas for horse com petition, as recommended by the Premium List Committee, include 60 Belgians, 30 Percherons and 10 Clydesdales. It was also recom mended that the responsibility for the horse pulling contest remain with the pulling committee and the Farm Show management. JOSEPH, Mo. - Some 75 of the nation’s most outstanding young Angus showmen will vie for the title of top 1981 Angus showman at the 15th National Angus Showmanship Contest, July 9 and 10 in Nashville, reports Dean Hurlbut, director of activities for the American Angus Association. The national event will be at the state fairgrounds, featured in conjunction with the National Junior Angus Heifer Show and the second annual meeting of the National Junior Angus Association. Each state may enter two showmanship representatives who have been named winners earlier this year in competition sponsored by state Angus associations. Simmental and Chianma classes were added to the Junior Beef Breeding competition. In dairy, a new calf class was added in both the open and junior division to bring the class schedule in line with national shows. Under poultry, the turkey classes are to be divided between market and standard breed classes. Two new gift fruit classes were added, as well as a class for exotic and minor nuts. Unwashed mushrooms will be added to the vegetable department. In the Home Economics Department, new classes were designated for 4-H clothing projects. A look will also be taken at the Safe Tractor Driving Contest to see if it can be updated to include tractor safety. The Commission also took action $l5O, second place $125, third $lOO, fourth $75, fifth $5O and sixth through remaining places $35. In addition, contest finalists will receive silver Revere bowls, from the American Angus Auxiliary. Preliminary rounds of the contest will start at 3 p.m. on July 9, and the finals are set for mid afternoon on July 10. Judges will be Brad Greiman, Algona, Iowa; Sam Wagner, Harlan, Kansas; and Dick Burns, Peoria, Illinois. A special breakfast for showmanship contestants is scheduled for Friday morning, July 10, sponsored by Steadman Farms of Blountville, Tennessee, and George A. Williams Angus Farm, Jonesboro, Tennessee. Keynote speaker will be S. Thomas Burnett, House of Represen tatives, State of Tennessee. VENTILATING FANS r r r r are to be limited to one pig, with space provided for 100 FFA exhibitors and 100 4-H exhibitors. The top eight pigs in each class will be sold at the auction. The three showmanship classes based on ages were reduced from four to three.
