Keep a list of treated animals Review before milking or shipping animals 2 Discard all milk from treated cows Any infusion or injection of a cow with antibiotics will enter the bloodstream and cause adulteration of alt milk of that cow for the milk withhold ing period specified 3 Calculate preslaughter drug withdrawal and milk discard times accurately -be >n with last milking or time of administration 4 Segregate all treated animals from milking herd until full withholding penod is past or mark ail treated animals with a foolproof identification method and be certain all personnel understand the procedure 5 Be sure veterinarian always informs you of any drugs used and the proper withholding penods required for each drug and/or safe date to market milk or animals treated 6 Use proper dose only in animal species and size of animal to be treated—overdosing and use of drugs in improper species may cause illegal residues 7 Place all antibiotics and the entire treatment program under the control of a responsible individual Store all antibiotics in a safe place. 8 Keep accurate records of all treated cows including breeding and freshening dates for proper drying off and dry cow therapy Remember withdrawal penods for dry cow treatment products are long, and specified on the label. 9 Understand the significance and importance of eliminating illegal drug residues in milk, cull cows and calves. Violative animals may be condemned at slaughter be cause of illegal drug or other chemical residues in the meat. Milk with antibiotics can adulterate a whole truckload and/or entire holding tank.
