    D6—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, June 6,1981
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Five
Outstanding Young Jersey
Dairymen will be honored by the
American Jersey Cattle Club at its
annual meeting in Woodstock, Vt.,
June 15-17
Dan Bansen, Dayton, Ore.;
Major and Lou Bond, Hickory,
N.C.; David Bixler, Tulare, Calif ;
Charles Steer, Ninety-Six, S.C.;
and Kenneth, Michael, Paul and
Tracy Stiles, Clearbrook, Va., are
recognized as progressive young
dairymen in the Jersey breed.
Dan Bansen, Forest Glen Jer
seys, Dayton, Ore., ui partnership
with his father, Stan, owns 450
Jerseys of all ages, with more than
200 cows going through the parlor
daily.
The 1980 DHIR herd average was
15,989 pounds milk and 787 pounds
fat on 233 lactations, placing them
second for milk and fat in the
nation, regardless of herd size.
Currently, Dan is vice president
of the Oregon State and
Wilhamette Valley DHIAs. He was
general chairman of the 1980
AJCC-NAJ Annual Meetings which
were held in Portland.
Dan and nis wife, Judy, have
three young daughters.
WhJe working as herdsman for
Bennett and Thomas Holsteins,
Madison, Ga., and then the North
Carolina State University Ran
dleigh Farm, Major and Lou Bond
saved all the money they could in
hopes of someday purchasing
Jerseys and running their own
farm.
This dream came true in March,
1978 when, after borrowing enough
to purchase 60 Jersey cows,
milking equipment and minimal
farm equipment, they leased their
present farm, Cherub Jersey
Farm.
ARCADIAN liquid gives a
profitable boost to alfalfa
after every cutting.
Give alfalfa a liquid boost after the first cutting.
That's when topdressing N-P-K, and micronutrients
in an Arcadian® liquid fertilizer made with POLY-N*
pays big dividends in high yielding, high quality alfalfa.
You can even add insecticides if you need to.
When it’s done right, a topdressing after every
cutting will increase the yields. It will raise the protein
content. Help the crop compete better against
grasses. And improve the vigor for a long stand life.
Arcadian liquid makes it easy. Made the SLF - way.
Arcadian liquid gives you uniform distribution of
fertilizer ingredients from start to finish. It’s truly the
efficient way to turn alfalfa into green gold.
