Indiana man selected HOUSTON, Tex. Roy Prescott of Jerome, Id. has been selected as the American-International Charolais Association’s par ticipant in the 1981 Young Cat tlemen’s Traveling Leadership Conference. The Conference, sponsored by the National Cattlemen’s Association, will be held from June 21-16. Each state organization and breed affiliate has the opportunity to sponsor one young cattleman between the ages of 25 and 40 to make the trip. The NCA picks up part of the cost, but the remainder will be paid by the sponsoring affiliate. Participants will begin the Conference in Denver, Co., where they will take part in discussions about the NCA and emerging trends in the cattle industry. They will tour the new NCA headquarters building currently under construction. The next stop for the cattlemen will be Sious City, lowa, where they will tour the IBP’s Dakota City Beef Processing Plant. Chicago will be the next stop for the cattlemen. They will visit the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, where the group will watch the cattle futures market open and hear the presentations on the role of commodity futures marketing. An Elanco corporate jet will then fly the group to Indianapolis, Inc. and the headquarters of Elanco Products Co. They will tour the firm’s nearby research farm. Next, the group will travel to Washington, D.C. where they will spend the major part of two days becoming more familiar with the processes of the federal govern ment; how government affects the cattle business; and how that ...to moke sure that lote weeds cannot mature to become the nursery for next year's weed crop. Time will be provided for visits with their own Congressmen. The American-International Charolais Association’s representative Roy Prescott, 32, was selected by the AICA’s board of directors in May. He is a 1974 graduate of Brigham Young University with a B.S. degree. He majored in animal science, pohtical science, and business. Upon leaving college, he returned to his family’s ranch in Idaho to manage the operation he had helped establish and develop throughout his childhood and teenage years. The Prescotls have a 900 head cow and calf purebred Charolais and commercial operation. In addition, they have 400 head of feeder stock. Their cattle run over 4,000 acres of deeded ground as well as 250,000 acres of BLM land. They also farm 1,500 privately owned acres of hay, grain, beans, corn, and potatoes.
