Area engines honors to Twin Valley ELVERSON - Twin Valley FFA members recently participated in area FFA contests,'which included Berks, Lebanon and Schuylkill counties, with the chapter small engines team earning a berth to the state contest. Dave Schlimme and Eric Timm will compete against 40 other teams at Penn State in June. Dave,, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Schlimme, of R 2, Elverson, finished third in individual com petition; with Eric, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Timm of Rl, Birdsboro, finishing fourth As a team they placed second, behind the Eastern Lebanon County High School team, which will also compete in the state contest. The small gasoline engines contest tests both basic small engine knowledge and practical application of this knowledge. Individually, each student must take a written test of small engines and complete a worksheet on using a servicejnanual. Students must also be able -to identify small engine parts and tools and give their function or use. Throughout this portion of the contest, each student is also scored on proper use of tools and safety. ' This contest is the culmination of the small gasoline engines unit taught to vocational agriculture students throughout Pennsylvania. At Twin Valley, tenth grade students receive this unit with one team of two students eligible to represent the FFA chapter in the area contest. In the area FFA Interview, contest, Brenda Wemer, daughter* of Mr. and Mrs. John Werner, placed fourth; with Lisa Yoder daughter of Mrs. Blanche Yoder, placing tenth. In this contest each student must write a letter of application for a job, complete a job application, and be interviewed by a judge. In the salesmanship contest, Scott Stoltzfus, son of Mr. and Mrs. John W.
