Presenting land resources in graphic form, the map is unlike Get fleeces ready BAIR The' Cumberland Cooperative Sheep and Wool Growers will hold their 1981 Wool Pool on June 17, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Carlisle Fairgrounds. Producers from nearby counties are welcome to market their fleeces at the Wool Pool. This year’s buyer is A.H. Helmig & Co., Inc., Narberth. Prices for fleeces will be determined by grade. Wool will be graded and weighed in the pooler’s presence and a receipt will be given for the total weight jn each grade. Producers will receive checks for wool within a few weeks. Penn State Extension livestock specialists will be 'conducting anything published previously for Pennsylvania. It brings together factors of soil depth, drainage, available moisture, and productive capacities of soils. Published in 1976, the map has been used widely by industrial and community planners, Penn State officials report. High school and college teachers find it helpful in studying earth sciences. It was demonstrations on wool grading as part of the day’s activities. All fleeces must be tied, reminds Donna Duncan, secretary treasurer of the Cooperative. “Loose fleeces and fleeces tied with binder twine or other string will be sold as rejects. Paper twine will be sold at the Fairgrounds. “Wool must be free of excessive moisture,” she adds. “Examine your fleeces now. If they’re wet, dry them in the sun and store in a dry place not in the cellar or on concrete. • “And, please don’t bring wobl to . the Pool in plastic woven bags or they’ll be severely discounted.” , developed by Howard W. Higbee, professor emeritus of soil science, who considers it vital for soil and water resource managers. Multiple patterns and colors are used to portray the 153 soil groups coded and symbolized for identification. Each soil unit or group is evaluated by 16 charac teristics. The more important characteristics are depth, soil drainage environment, geological source of soil material, available moisture, plant rooting zones, and dominant crop production. Copies are available for $3.25, including tax and postage, from Land Resources Map, Box 6000, University Park, Pa., 16002. Make check or money order payable to The Pennsylvania State Univer sity.
