READING Three herds tiom
Berks and Montgomery counties
were recently recognized at a
luncheon for having the highest
averages m their county for milk
or butterfat production.
On a cumulative basis, these
three herds, consisting of 178 cows,
total produced over 3% million
pounds of milk in 1980 and over 124
thousand pounds of butterfat.
Berks 'County’s high herd for
milk is owned by Charles and Tun
Kisshng, Robesoma. Their 62 cows
averaged 22,182 pounds of milk and
770 pounds of butterfat. The cows
are housed in a tie-stall barn and
fed a total-mix ration consisting of
haylage, corn silage, chopped hay,
high moisture ear com and protein
supplement.

Seidel, has the high herd for but
terfat in Berks county. Their 24
Holstems averaged 19,934 pounds
of milk and 775 pounds of fat. In
addition to their holstems, the
Seidel’s also have a herd of Ayr
shires. The feeding program at
Hemdel consists of hay, corn
silage, and concentrate.
The DaGma Holstein herd was
recognized as high herd for milk in
Montgomery county. This herd is
owned by David Longacre family,
Hereford. Their 92 cows averaged
18,630 pounds of milk and 627
pounds of butterfat, and are fed a
hay, silage, high moisture shelled
com and protein supplement.
All three , farms are totally
family owned and operated, and
house their cows in conventional
tie-stall barns.

at a luncheon sporisoredbyF.M. Brown’s, Inc., Womelsdorf; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kissiing
a Berks County feed supplier. Receiving and Mr. and Mrs. Tim Kissiing, Robesonia; and
plaques for their herds’ records were: Mr. and David and Ronald Longacre, Hereford, right.
