Weekly 51 Cattle
Through midweek slaught steers
and heifers 50 lower. Cows and buls
2.00-3.00 lower.
Four day receipts 12,325, last
week 14,175, year ago 13,500.
A downturn in the beef trade,
which forced prices of steers and
heifers sharply lower on Monday
rounds, reversed to the upside on
Tuesday, prompting some ap
preciation in cattle prices Tuesday
and Wednesday. A portion of the
strength in steer pnces was con
tributed by purchases of. 1050-1150
lb. steers, in good to choice
slaughter flesh, to .return to the
country for further feeding. The
entire market structure, however,
was clouded at -midsession by
uncertainties attributable .to a but
chers union strike on the east;
coast. This situation con
siderable. break, .in Wednesday
dressed beef-prices; but as the
bulk of 4he weeks live, cattle
trading was completed,, it was not
reflected in the market trend. Both
