Area FFA selects speaking contest winners
MILLERSVILLE - Winners
were selected m Area FFA Public
Speaking and Parliamentary
Procedure competition among
chapter contestants from Lan
caster and Chester counties held
Wednesday, April 22, at Penn
Manor High School.
First-place winners in the
various categories of competition
were:
Public Speaking - Douglas
Hershberger, of Solanco High
School.
Extemporaneous Speaking -
Barry Geib, of Manheim Central
High School.
Parliamentary Procedure - The
team from Owen J. Roberts High
School, which includes Loren Ruth,
president; Kathryn Soltys, vice
president; Karen John, secretary;
Alan Golden, treasurer; Mike
Jankowski, sentinel; Darrell
Guest, reporter; Andy Batdorf,
student advisor; Tom Roth,
chaplain; and alternates, Chris
Soltys and Ken Adams.
In addition to these first-place
winners, other FFAers who will
move on to take part in regional
competition at Kutztown on May 7
include:
Tom Roth, of Owen J. Roberts
High School* second m public
speaking; and Mervm Keagy, of
Penn Manor High School, who
placed third.
William MacCauley, of Octorara
High School, who placed second m
the extemporaneous competition;
and Angie Booth, of Penn Manor
High School, who placed third.
The second-place team in the
parliamentary procedure com
petition was Solanco High School,
which will also move on to the
regional competition. The team
includes Douglas Hershberger,
president; Tom Herr, vice
president; Jack Heidelbaugh,
secretary; Ernie Frey, treasurer;
Brett Holzhauer, reporter; Ken
Scott, sentinel; Ken Miller, student
advisor; and Tina Tadych,
chaplain.
In public speaking, the list of
contestants also included Carolyn
Witmer, of Garden Spot High
School; Kathryn Soltys, of Owen J.
Roberts High School; and Greg
Stapleton, of Octorara High
School.
Other competitors in the ex
temporaneous competition were
Bill Henley, of Octorara High
School; and Bill Wylie, of Oxford.
The two remaining teams in the
parliamentary procedure com
petition were those from Manheim
Central High School and Octorara'
High School.
