In early week trading a con
tinued strong demand, reinforced
by an upgoing beef trade,
propelled steer and heifer prices to
their highest levels since October
1980. However, at midweek the
market direction reversed to the
downside, under a dull demand, as
the carcass trade moved lower and
.boxed beef movement became
very sluggish. Nevertheless, this
was the fifth consecutive week of
higher weekly market trends.
Steers made up 44 pet. of 5 day
receipts, heifers 29 pet, cows 7 pet.,
feeders 17 pet.
