Record number turn UNIVERSITY PARK - The largest turnout ever including 274 members of 4-H and FFA clubs plus 50 college students took part in the Bth Annual Spring Livestock Judging Contest held recently at Penn State. Sponsored by the Penn State Block and Bridle Club, the event was directed by Brian Keister of Mifflmburg, senior in animal production. Assisting him were David Wise of Spring Grove, junior in animal production, and mem bers of the 1980 Penn State livestock judging team. Eight classes of-ammals were judged. This includes three classes of beef, two of sheep, and three classes of swine. Students placed the animals in regards to their conformation. There were two collegiate divisions and two junior divisions. The experienced students gave six sets of reasons, describing why they placed the animals as they did. The amateur class was just responsible for placing the animals Brenda Werner of Hanover won the collegiate professional class. She was also high individual in oral reasons and swine judging. Tun Beck of Seven Valleys won the beef cattle classes and Mary Streett of New London was the top sheep judge. - Carol Kmzer of Lancaster won the amateur collegiate division. The beginner junior class was only required to place the classes of animals, while the advanced juniors gave then sets of reasons - one each on beef cattle, sheep, and swine. East Lancaster FFA Team B won the beginner junior division. Top individuals were, Robert Nplson of West Greene County FFA for beef cattle, Chad Cash of Centre County 4-H for sheep, and Beth McCullough of Mercer County 4-H for swine. The high individual judge was John Schuler of Butler County 4-H.
