C2o—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, April 25,1981 Several state comities high gypsy moth risk areas WASHINGTON, D.C. - Risk designation changes m areas regulated to prevent the artificial spread of the destructive gypsy moth have been announced by plant health officials of the U.S Department of Agriculture Greg Rohwer, staff director of USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, said the changes reflect new distribution patterns of the leafeating cater pillars that stripped 5.1 million acres of forest, shade and or namental trees in 1980. Under federal regulations, Rohwer said, infested areas are divided into high-risk, heavily infested areas and low-risk, more lightly infested areas. “Risk,” he said, “is defined in terms of the possibility of artifical spread of the moth occurring when egg masses or other life stages hitchhike via the movement of people or goods.” Rohwer said regulated articles may move freely between high risk areas and low-risk areas or Bees (Continued from Page CI9) producing a wildflower honey from golden rod, wild aster, dutch clover, alfalfa, raspberries, dandelion, locust, and fruit blossoms. The honey is ‘harvested’ in a series of steps First, the frames are removed from the supers and the bees are shaken off Then the wax caps that seal the honey in the combs are removed, and the frames are stood on-end in a machine called an extractor. This device, which is turned by hand, draws the honey away from the wax comb through centrifugal force. After the honey is removed, the frames, complete with wax combs, are placed back in the hive, and the process begins again Even though taking care of his bees and a few head of livestock keep the retired bee inspector busy on his farm, he taices a vacation’ each year to Florida a working vacation, of course, since he is helping friend Paul Zeigler r YOUR MILKQUAUTYGUARDIAN..: li i | f I I Mueller HiPerForm is *• m» \ the completely if f^A automatic milk cooling system for progressive dairymen Durable HiPer-Form Model "OH” and "MHL” Milk Coolers feature large radius corners and smooth stainless steel welds for easy cleaning Cooler capacities range from 300 to 6000 gallons With the flip of a switch, Mueller-Matic Automatic Washing System cleans the cooler interior with jet-spray acidified rinse Ask us for details on HiPerForm J) milk coolers JLJ L/ "OH” r-i —USED TANKS —1-1 | I 300 Ga». &Up I FOR MORE INFORMATION.
