Through midweek slaughter
steers 3.00-3.50 higher. Heifer 2.50
higher. Cows steady to 50C lower.
Bulls steady.
Four day receipts 13,593; last
week 13,947, a year ago 11,737.
Steer and heifer prices ranged
higher for the fourth consecutive
week, reaching their highest levels
since December of 1980. Broad
advances m the beef trade, which
is usually quite dull during the
week preceding Easter, fueled the
advance. Demand by most in
terests was excellent as a
generally optimistic outlook
prevailed throughout the industry.
Choice cattle nroducing yield
grade 2-3 carcasses enjoyed the
best demand; although percentage
wise, the number of cattle
displaying yield grade 4-5 ten
dencies, was reduced from
previous weeks and these kinds
shared in the week’s full advance.
