D32—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, April 18,1981 Farmers assets, capital increases QUARRYVILLE - The total production assets in agriculture increased from $162.8 billion in 1960 to $796 4 billion in 1980. This is an increase of 390 percent The value of production assets per farm increased from $46,000 to $372,000, or an increase of over 700 percent The assets per farm worker also increased over 700 percent in this same 1960 to 1980 period The decrease in farm numbers and farm workers along with a rapid increase in capitalization has ac counted for this large increase in production assets per worker The increase this past year exceeded 15 percent This kind of an in crease indicates the tremendous need for detailed management of farms, especially as it deals with farm finances, says Frederick A Hughes, Extension farm management specialist, at Penn State Univer sity.
