State votes to continue six ag research projects
HARRISBURG - The Penn
sylvania Agricultural Research
Committee has voted unanimously
to fund six on-going agricultural
research projects for another year,
according to the State Agriculture
Secretary Penrose Hallowell
Funding for the on-going
projects, totaling $197,355, was
approved on April 2 during a
meeting of the nine-member
committee, chaired by Hallowell
He said the money used to fund
the projects is part of ap
proximately $400,000 transferred
Simmentals name officers
CANTON Lyle Haflett, owner
of Hafco Farms of Canton was
elected President of the Penn
sylvania Sunmental Association
during the organizations annual
membership meeting held at State
College, on March 27th
Robert Shertzer of Jersey
Shore, will serve as Vice President
and Rose Schneider was re-elected
Secretary-Treasurer
The Pennsylvania Juniors
elected Brenda Walter of Airville,
to be their first President.

The Secretary noted that 42 new
project proposals totaling over $1
million, ranging from the study of
poultry diseases and their effects
on egg production and shell quality
to the effects of stray voltage in
dairy operations, were also in
troduced at the meeting
These projects will be studied
and reviewed over the next few
weeks, Hallowell said A vote on
which new projects will be funded
is scheduled when the research
committee meets on April 23.
The continuing projects ap
proved for another year and the
institutions doing the research
are
