ULYSSES Carroll L. Howes,
Assistant Pennsylvania State 4-H
leader, addressed an audience of
approximately 60 persons at the
annual Potter County 4-H leaders
and bankers dinner, held Monday,
April 6 at the Penn. York Camp,
Ulysses.
Howes showed slides on the 4-H
program m Pennsylvania with
emphasis on getting teens and
their parents mvoived in 4-H clubs
and keeping them mvoived. He
said that one of the mam reasons
why the 4-H program is losmg
teenagers is that they have to be
provided with something to do that
will peak their interest and keep it
there
Thg dinner was attended by 4-H
leaders, teen leaders and bankers
who help sponsor the dinner each
year
Potter County extension director
Samuel Crossley presented a $lOO
scholarship awanl to Leo Dunn
whose essay on “What 4-H Has
Meant to Me“ and “Why I Want
This Scholarship” was selected by
a panel of judges from the 4-H
Expansion and Review Com
mittee.
Mrs. Jane Rice, leader of the
Rainbow Mountain Trail Blazers,
gave a shde presentation prepared

Potter County 4-H holds leaders banquet
Washington Focus Experience.
Clif is now serving with the armed
forces and was unable to attend.
Leo Dunn, Coudersport, and
Nancy Pratt, Shinglehouse,
presented awards to the following
adult leaders - Jane Lewis,
Westfield, 24 years; Jane Crossley,
Fred Baker, Coudersport and
Janet Erway, Genesee, 14 years;

LANSDALE The Montgomery
County Equine Council begins its
second year with activities of in
terest to horse owners.
All horse enthusiasts are invited
to the spring meeting, which is
open to the public, on Tuesday,
April 28, 7:30 p.m., at the 4-H
Center near Lansdale.
Richard Goerhtz of Newville,
will give an illustrated talk and
answer questions on freeze
branding of horses. Goerhtz is a
fran6hised representive for KYPO
Kinetics Inc. from the state of
Washington.
If enough interest is shown that
evening, the Council will sponsor a
freeze branding clinic at a later
date, at reduced costs, for those
interested in their horses having a
lifetime identification. It has been
reported to the Council that
several horses have been stolen in

Montgomery equine council
to begin second year
Montgomery County in the past
two months.
Freeze branding could be one
deterent to theft and certainly a
method of recovery if theft should
happen.
Also featured at the April 28
meeting will be a beautiful film on
the Chief Joseph Ride.
Bob Krauss of the Green Lane
area, a Council Board Member,
has ridden the entire ride and will
narrate and discuss the program.
He notes that it takes 10 years to
complete the entire ride.
This presentation is a must for
anyone who enjoys trail riding.
The Montgomery County 4-H
Center is located on Snyder Road
off Route 363 near North Penn
High School, Lansdale. The
evening program is open to all,
free of charge. Anyone desiring to
join the Council or renew their
