r foundation NEWARK - The Delaware 4-H Foundation has awarded six Community Service Grants to Delaware 4-H clubs. These are the first such grants ever awarded by the 4-H Foundation. The Harrington Sunshine 4-H club has received a grant to buy plant materials, which they will use to beautify the grounds of the Harrington Library. The young club members will plant flowers, shrubs and a cherry tree, and will tend them throughout the growing season. Members of the West End 4-H club in Wilmington will use their grant to buy painting supplies They are going to design and paint a mural on an outside wall of their headquarters, the West End Neighborhood Center. Besides giving the youngsters an op portunity to show off their creativity and to beautify the neighborhood, the mural will also point up the services offered at the center It will depict such scenes as the well-baby clinic, 4-H, and senior citizen activities A group of blind children will learn how to square dance and have a chance to pet some friendly animals, thanks to the Hill ‘n’ Dale club of Hockessm. As a result, South Heala Street and New Castle Avenue will get some needed color, and the young people will learn as much about zoning as about azaleas. Members of the Hockessin Wildcats 4-H club will purchase cleaning and yard-care supplies with their community service grant. They’ll be using them to do yard work and light maintenance for senior citizens, their local library, community center and fire station The Y’s Owls 4-H club will use its grant to purchase fencing. These 4- H’ers often hold petting zoos for community groups, and they’re also planning a living nativity scene for the Christmas season.
