DER suspends
Sunny Farms permit
potential, were cited in the Lyncott
order.
While Lyncott had been
operating its landfill since 1977,
neither Elwin Farms or Sunny
Farms landfills are operational.
However, initial construction had
begun at the Sunny Farms site for
which the permit had been issued
Dec. 17, 1979. The Elwin Farms
permit was issued May 2,1980.
DER suspended the Elwin
Farms and Sunny Farms permits
because design and technological
plans for these two sites were the
same as the design and technology
employed at the Lyncott Landfill.
Problems leading the the Lyncott
closing and suspension are
believed by DER to be symp
10:00 A. M
tomatic of the design, construction
and operation of the landfill and
could crop up in other areas
similarity constructed and
maintained.
The permits will be suspended
until further notice
This is the first action taken by
DER under 1980 Solid Waste
Management Act provisions
allowing the suspension of permits
because of violations at another,
related site.
Clifford L. Jones, DER
secretary, said, “The suspensions
represent a stepped-up en
forcement effort against hazar
dous waste problems now
available under the new Solid
Waste Management Act ”
