Seventeen dairy farmers were
honored by their fellow members
in Maryland Cooperative Milk
Producers, Inc for producing milk
of exceptional quality The awards
were presented last Saturday
during the 46th Annual Meeting
and Banquet of MCMP at
Marriott’s Hunt Valley Inn,
Cockeysville, Md
The awards program was
created by MCMP in an effort to
recognize those producers who
make that extra effort to produce
milk of the highest quality The
program is also designed to en
courage the members to continue
their efforts and to motivate others
to do likewise.
The quality production awards
are divided into three categories-
Excellence, Gold and Silver The
hardest award to earn and con
sequently the most prestigious is
the Award of Excellence In 1980,
only seventeen of MCMP’s 1000
members earned this recognition
The criteria for the selection of
recipients of the Excellence Award
are stringent

(1) All standard plate bacteria
counts under 10,000 for 1980; (2) No
off-odor rejection; (3) No positive
antibiotic test results; (4) No
unsatisfactory sediments; (5) No
somatic cell counts in excess of
1,000,000/ml. and; (6) a 99 percent
average on all farm inspections by
the Health Department and the
Cooperative in 1980
