Penn State sets ‘Little I’
UNIVERSITY PARK
The Penn State Block
and Bridle Club is
preparing for the 64th
Little International
Livestock Exposition.
Showtime is April 25
at 8 a.m. in the Penn
State Beef-Sheep
Center. The Public is
invited to attend the
day’s activities.
Students draw lets for
the animals about six
weeks before the show.
They are responsible for
fitting and training the
animal for the show.
“Little I” competition
includes the fitting and
showing of beef cattle,
sheep, swine and hor
ses.
At 8 a.m. the judging
of beef cattle and sheep
will begin. The hog
classes will follow the
judging of the sheep.
Horses will be shown in
the afternoon. The
grand champion
showman will then be
picked after all the
species are completed
In the evening
following the com
petition a banquet will
be held to award the
trophies for the
champion showers and
fitters.
Judges for “Little I”
are Chester Hughes of
Portage for beef;
Robert Zimmerman of
New Concorde, Ohio for
sheep; Keith Bard of
Lewistown for swine;
and Nancy Kohler of
McKean for horses.
Students with
knowledge of showing
the respective species
are selected as
superintendents to help
the contestants with
their animals.
This years superin
tendents are Dale Rains
of Mercer for beef,
Linda Ebaugh of Delta
for sheep, Lee Johnston
of New Alexandria for
swine, and Rich Den
mston of Pittsburgh for
horses.
The show manager is
Jeff Byerly of Milton, a
senior majoring m
animal production.
Assisting Jeff is Bob
Bortz of Apollo, a junior
animal producton
