024—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, March 21,1981 Magic in the air at Lampeter-Strasburg LAMPETER There was magic in the air at the annual banquet of the Garden* Spot Chapter of the Future Fanners of America at Lampeter-Strasburg High School on Thursday, March 12. A culinary magic opened the evening’s activities with the serving of the banquet meal, which was topped off by homemade ice cream prepared by chapter members. A special type of magic was then shared by students, parents and supporters of the FFA program as the various awards were presented. And it was only fitting that the entertainment feature a fast moving and funny show by magician Peter Watt, who in volved numerous members of the audience of all ages in his tricks and accompanying comedic patter. Among the top awards were the Star Greenhand, which went to Jay Garber, and Star Chapter Farmer, to Darrel Mills Garber’s chapter activities included first place in the trap shoot, top merchandiser in the citrus sale and projects m tobacco, dairy heifer, two acres of com and five beehives As Star Chapter Star Chapter Farmer of Lampeter-Strasburg FFA is Darrel Mills, left; while Star Greenhand recipient is Jay Garber. Farmer, Mills participated in projects of a dairy cow, calf, trapping and 1000 hours of on-farm expenpnfo vpar he was Star Greenhand. Receiving their Greenhand Degrees were Harold Brubaker, Kevin Flick, Jay Graber, Randy Houser, Todd Lackey, Larry Landis, Dennis Metz, Robert Rhinier and Joe Rohrer. Chapter Farmers include Donna Frey, John Hamish, Patrice McFarland, Darrell Mills and Tun Rineer. The Honorary Chapter Farmer Award was presented to Kenneth and Thelma Garber, R 2 Willow Street Proficiency award winners were Dave Weaver, electronics; John Harmsh, agricultural mechanics; Jeff Hess, beef production; Donna Frey, crop production; Ken Harmsh, dairy production; Rick Evans, fish and wildlife management; and Fred Musser, swme production. The Lancaster County Bankers’ Award was presented to Bnan Slump. Also recognized were Jeff Hess as Star County Farmer and Shimp as first runnerup. Star County Agribusinessman. Red Rose Degree recipients were Hess, Slump and Ken Har- Degree recipients.
