IRISHTOWN - The bulls were
on parade again during the Fifth
Annual Beef Ball, held here at the
fire hall on Saturday evening. The
unique event is sponsored by the
Adams County Beef Producers
Association.
Two breeds of beef cattle were
led out across a tarpaulin both
respective champions in the state.
William Holloway, manager of
South Branch Cattle Company,
York, led the 1981 Pennsylvania
Farm Show grand champion
Angus bull before the crowd of
cattle producers.
S Branch Dynamos Pride’s
ebony coat was groomed to per
fection for the stroll across the hall
floor. The junior yearling bull is

champion bull, Hilger Special 415, the 1981 floor by. Judy Long, herdsperson for Spring

Bulls go on parade in Adams Co.
sired by Sayre Dynamo 441 G, out
of Clova Pride N Bar. He has taken
the grand champion’s banner at
Farm Show for two straight years.
Spring Bottom Farm, Fairfield,
brought their grand champion
Polled Hereford bull, Hilger
Special 415, to represent the breed
in the parade.
The 1981 Farm Show champ, led
by herdsperson Judy Long, was
decked out for the occasion His
white head and markings were
snow white, a striking contrast to
his mahogany coat.
Hilger, who is co-owned with JV
Farm, Douglasville, is sired by
Hilger Ranch 138, out of Hilger
Miss Rose He was calved at the
Montanna ranch on April 7, 1979
and was brought to Adams County
last year
Other highlights of the evening
included the presentation of
awards and the crowning of the
Adams County Beef Producers
queen
Roy Reedy, of Reedy Brothers
Company, Gettysburg, accepted
the Beef Producers Award for the
John Deere Farm Machinery
dealership. The award is presented
each year in appreciation of local
support for the Association.
The 1981 Adams County Junior
Cattleman Award went to sixteen
year-old Erik Quanbeck, son of Mr
and Mrs. James Quanbeck, R 2
Fairfield. The student of Fairfield
High School is active in 4-H,
carrying breeding projects with
his Santa Gertrudis cattle along
with his steer project.
Quanbeck said he owns three
Santa Gertrudis females, and
helps his parents with their 50 cow
herd on their 240 acre farm.
The 1981 Adams County Beef
Producers Queen is eighteen-year-
Karen Reichart, 18. of R 2 Littlestown was named 1981
Adams Co. Beef Producers Queen during the annual banquet
held Saturday evening at the Irishtown Fire Hall. The Junior
Cattlemen Award went to Erik Quanbeck, 16. of R 2 Fairfield.
