Bradford Jersey Club
elects state directors
NORTH TOWANDA - A
combined meeting of the Bradford
County Jersey Cattle Club and
District 4 was held last Friday at
the North Towanda Methodist
Church.
Tom Noble, president of the
Bradford County Club, conducted a
short business meeting after
dinner.
Eugene Harris, of Milan, and
Dave Norman of Tioga County,
were elected to the state board of
directors, Bill Swingle on the Sire
Selection Committee reported that
60,000 Jerseys were legistered in
the state, an ail time high
Denise Andrien, member of the
Youth Division, said they had had
a good heifer and calf sale, and
encouraged the young people to
participate in all the activities

of $2250 from the New Jersey
Angus Association has been used to
found the New Jersey Junior
Angus Association The new group
will help young people learn
responsible practices in animal
husbandry while promoting their
own growth and development
The parent organization raised
the founding funds through a
special auction of frozen Angus
bull semen at the 1960 New Jersey
Field Day in Lebanon, NJ
NJJAA president, Chris Mayer,
says “The money will be used to
help fund a Junior membership
dri\e, and spread the word
throughout the agricultural
communities of New Jersey how
young people can benefit by our
program ”

meeting will be in Mercer County

Jake Guffey, cooperative ex
tension agent, reminded the crowd
of 60 Jersey farmers present of the
date for registration of animals for
show and 4-H.
Bruce Bresee, Ulster, gave a 45
minute travelogue of his visits to
Scotland and many of the islands
including the Shetlands
He showed pictures of Loch
Lomand, Loch Ness where the
“monster lies”, a bird sanctuary
and light house on the upper Up of
the Shetland Islands, the gardens
of Poolewe, Dunvegan Castle He
also told the group how Scott’s
farming practices differ from
farming in the States
The Cattle Preview Show on May
9 heads a full calendar of events in
which the Juniors will participate
Besides plenty of social activities,
other important shows include the
Northeast U S Regional Heifer
Show, National Showmanship
Finals (in Nashville, TN), the New
Jersey Field Day Show, and a
special state calf sale in the fall
The Junior group, backed by
adult advisors from the parent
association, is open to anyone from
9 to 20 years of age Annual dues
are $5 per person or $lO per family

Reinecker named WYE delegate
VUKK Cindy Reinecker,
daughter of Mr and Mrs. Stanley
Reinecker, York Springs, has been
selected as an International Four-
H Youth Exchange (IFYE)
delegate by the Pennsylvania State
4-H Office.
According to Jared Tyson,
County 4-H Agent, a fund raising
campaign committee has been
formed with Richard S. Miller
serving as Chairman Committee
members are. Nadine Stock, Ken
Reinhart, Shirley Heltibndle,
Freida Johnson, Dave Kehr, Mark
Wilson, Carol Rex, Harrison Fair,
Leonard Lobaugh, Dean Hoffman,
Dave Houck, Richard M. Miller,
Commissioner Bob Klunk and
Helen Tumson

The IF YE program is designed
to promote the achievement of
greater international cooperation
and understanding of people and is
sponsored by the National 4-H
Council.
Cindy will have the opportunity
to live and work with families in a
foreign country for six months. She
is awaiting assignment to a
specific country. When the country
is assigned, she will receive an
orientation to that host country and
acquire knowledge of its language.
While Cindy is gone, she’ll keep
us posted on her experiences and
problems through letters released
to the newspaper. When she
returns, she’ll be available to
share her experiences first hand as
a program speaker.
