N.J, counties set
several horse sessions
HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - This
year the Hunterdon County, N.J.
Extension Service will combine an
evening program on horse
management topics with a day
long bus tour to two prominent
horse farms in its annual
educational program for horse
owners.
The evening session will be held
on two successive dates...and in
two places: Tuesday, March 17, in
Hackettstown High School, and
Wednesday, the 18th, in Hun
terdon’s Extension Center. Roth
meetings begin at 8 p.m
They will feature J. Roy
Breneman, livestock specialist for
Agway, Harrisburg, Pa. A noted
authority in the care and feeding of
equmes, his topic will cover the
many aspects of good horse
management.
Jay Mickle, Stockton, a highly
regarded farrier, will speak on the
care of hooves and developing good
working relations with the farrier.
The third subject on the evening
program, also considered to be a
topic of prime concern to the horse
owner, will be “Poisonous
Weeds ..Identification and Con
trol ” Speaker will be Dr. John
Meade, Extension Specialist in
Weed Science at Rutgers.
A tour of two excellent horse
farms in the area is set for
Saturday, April 4. Demonstrations
and features of the day-long tour
will relate to topics covered in the
evening class.
Tour will be by bus and ad
mittance to the farms will be only
by bus. There is a $2 registration
fee for the evening class and $lO
fee for the bus tour.
Pre-registration is essential.

A special one-day seminar is
being scheduled by the Mercer,
Somerset and Hunterdon Ex
tension Services for horse farm
managers and key staff. The date
will be Thursday, March 19; the
place, Hunterdon’s Extension
Center; time 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Emphasis,- according to Jon
Repair, Mercer County Agent and
seminar coordinator, will be on
pastures., establishment and
maintenance. Fencing will be one
of the related topics to be
discussed.
