Farm Museum offers “old-time” courses
use as demonstrations for her pupils at the rug braiding
course at the Pennsylvania Farm Museum.
Learning how to hook a rug the way farm wives of long ago
did is no easy chore. Above Maud Zane talks to the class-on
this almost-lost art.

LANCASTER Tmsmithing,
rug braiding, whittling and fraktur
may sound like work from a
bygone era, but they are also
contemporary crafts taught by
experienced craftsmen at the
Pennsylvania Museum of Landis
Valley
Over 100 people are taking ad
vantage of these craft courses
being taught in four sessions each
during the month of March.
The eourses include some old
time favorites such as tmsmithing,
rug braiding, fraktur (a type of
calligraphy), caning, pottery,
punched paper embroidery,
whittling, and tatting
