tractors like
Stauffer’s Deutz 8006 have gone
through extensive evolution since
the first recorded tractor pulls
with farm machinery in 1929.
Originally the tractors pulled a
flat-bottomed sled filled with
stones, but five years ago the
NTPA patented a weight transfer
machine which increases the sled’s
weight as it progresses down the
track.
The Super Pull has two divisions,
for Super Stock and Modified
tractors. The Super Stock tractors
have stock appearance, blocks,
transmissions and final drive, but
the engines have been extensively
reworked. Horsepower outputs of
1200 and 1500 are not uncommon.
The Modified tractors’ only
restriction is length. Brag racing,

high displacement aircraft and
marine engines and turbines are
used on these tractors. Within both
divisions are four weight classes;
5000,7000,9000 and 12,000 pound.
The pullers have put thousands
of dollars into their prize tractors.
The Super Stock vehicles still look
like farm machinery, but the
modified tractors look like race
cars.
