Titus' dairy herd is housed in a newly-built freestall barn. The barn is
equipped with an automated manure-handling system including a con
tinuous alley cleaner, cross-gutter cleaner and piston ram pump. Design
of the barn was done with labor-efficiency in mind. All dairy manure and
waste water from the milkhouse and parlor is stored in the 4223
SLURRYSTORE' . Cows are milked in a parlor. The old tie-stall barn was
gutted and is presently being used for dry cows and heifers. Titus is
feeding a Total Ration of HARVESTORE” -processed High Moisture
Ground Ear Corn with Oats and Haylage Plus Corn Silage along with 38%
Supplement. Top cows receive additional 16% Feed by means of a
DeLavai Challenger Feeder. His herd, which is half first-calf heifers, has
an average of over 15,500 lbs. milk and tests at 3.8% 8.F.!

The Stoitzfus' 57-cow Holstein herd is housed in a
tie-stall barn. The herd is on an all-Haylage forage
program and High Moisture Shelled Corn with 38%
Supplement. As soon as calves are off milk repiacer,
they are fed HARVESTORE Haylage, High Moisture
Shelled Corn and some 16% Feed. Before switching to
HARVESTORE-processed feeds, Jake’s herd averaged
11,000 lbs. milk. In February, 1981, the herd
averaged 16,142 lbs. milk with 643 lbs. 8.F.!
