CARLISLE Farmers at
tending a senes of estate planning
courses m Southeast Pennsylvania

wills and trusts to gifts of farmland
to their children
Five separate meetings on estate
planning currently are offered by
the extension service
Two-day meetings in Carlisle,
Chambersburg and York con
cluded this week But farmers still
can attend similar meetings in
Lancaster and Lebanon
The Lancaster series will finish
March 12, 7 30 p m at the Farm
and Home Center The entire two
day session at Lebanon begins on
Partnership agreements are quite flexible and allow
parents to pass a farm estate on to their children while
maintaining an active role in the farm, Area Farm
Management Specialist Roland Freund told farmers at
Carlisle.

Area farmers discuss estate
March 12 at the Municipal
Building
The seminars cover the use ot
wills, Pennsylvania law, estate
taxes, property ownership and its
estate planning implications,
trusts and investments, specific
estate planning situations and
solutions, partnership agreements,
farm corporations, insurance,
business agreements, sales con
tracts and a host ot related sub
jects
Perhaps of most interest to the
average farmer is the session on
partnerships
Penn State Farm Management
Specialist Roland Freund wains
paienls against setting up a
paitnership and then having the
parents acting as employers while
the child provides labor
The same difficulty can be found
in partnerships between brothers
Here the older brother often
assumes the managment role, the
younger bi others becoming
laborers
One of tiie beauties, ot a part
nership agieement is its
flexibility, Freund tells those at
the estate planning seminars
Included in any partnership
agreement, though, should be an
agreement on how to disolve the
partnership
Such a clause usually would
requn e a yearly evaluation of the
partnership s total assets Not only
does this give the paitnership an
annual barometer ot where the
business is going but it also
establishes a figme to be used
