Lancaster Farm Women 27 met
at the home of Gladys Swarr on
February 3.
Members collected recipes of
foods brought to a supper last
November which will be printed
for each member.
Marjorie Stoltzfus reported that
Lancaster County Farm Women
had donated over $12,000 to
chanties last year
Members wrapped favors and
gifts for schools and lap robes for
homes

Ross Fichthorn, a physician’s
assistant at the Strausstown
Medical office, was the guest
speaker at the January meeting of
Berks Farm Women 8
In his presentation, Mr
Fichthorn spoke about his duties
and responsibilities as a
physician’s assistant He informed
the sixteen members present of the
rural need of medical services, the
education required to become a
physician’s assistant, and the
importance of a good working
relationship with doctors. He also
answered several questions from
the group.
The ways and means committee
received approval from the
membership to schedule three
ham-on-roll sandwich sales for
March 28, April 25, and May 30
The price of the sandwiches will be
$1 50
Six group members gave a
report about the Farm Women
State Convention held in
Harrisburg on January 12 and 13
Mrs. Barbara Kintzer,
president, announced that the
month for the Farm Women
County Hoedown has been changed
from April to November. Groups 7,
8 and 11 are in charge of making
arrangements for the hoedown.
A 4-H Craft Sale is scheduled for
April 3 and 4 at the Fairgrounds
Square Mall and the Society of
Farm Women members have been
asked to make a craft, a baked
good, or donate a plant to be sold
by the 4-H. The members of the
group planning to make a craft are
to bring them to the March
membership meeting
The membership welcomes two
new members, Mrs. Carol Hiester
and Mrs. Sharon Kramer, who
were installed into membership by
our president.
The next meeting entitled
"Stretch N’ Sew” will be held
February 24 in the residence of
Mrs. Laverne Balthaser, Bern
ville

The February 4 meeting of Farm
Women 9 was held in the home of
Sue Hendricks, with ten members'
present.
Greg Douglas from the Amity
Fire Co. showed a movie on fire
prevention, talked of different
ways to prevent fires, and how to
react in these situations.
A motion then was passed to
donate $50.00 to the fire company
It was decided members would
go to Covattos Restaurant for our
“Everybody’s Birthday Party.”
The March 14 meeting will be at
Nancy Lehmans, and she will
demonstrate cake decorating.

The Executive Board of the
Society of Farm Women of Lan
caster County met - Tuesday
February 3, Mountville.
Thirty-three society presidents
attended
Mrs. Opal Ruhl, county
president, gave a brief report on
Lancaster Farming, Saturday, February 14,1981—C1l
the state convention in which
Lancaster received two cer
tificates one for adding two new
farm women societies and another
for 100 percent safety and health
programs for each society.
The state project for 1981 was
announced It will be quilting in
four areas: pieced tops, em
broidered, apphqued, and knotted
tops.
Members were reminded to have
dues payed by Aprd 1, payable to
County Treasurer Gladys
Espenshade.
The 16th annual Spring Rally is
to held Thursday, May 21 at
Dickenson College in Carlisle
The Women’s Committee for the
Lancaster County Farmer’s
Association is sponsoring a safety
program for firemen, emergency
crews and farmers on pesticides*
silos, manure pit gases and dust
The program is to educate farmers
on the different chemicals and
machinery they use and to inform
the fire rescue crews what they
may be faced with upon a call.
This program will be held at
Youth for Christ Center, New
Danville Pike on March 5 at 7.30

York County Society of Farm
Women held an executive board
meeting February 2 at the York
Mall community room.
Any members wishing to pur
chase a cookbook, contact Mrs.

Naomi Bupp gave a report on the
state convention
Arlene Miller, chairperson for
the Cancer Society, announced the
board will be selling daffodils
March 20 and 21
Help is needed for the York
Hospital Fete Snack Shacks to be
held May 15 and 16.
A nominating committee
composed of Mrs. Harold
Sechrist, Mrs. Genet Sellers, and
Mrs. Esther Gable will be electing
a second vice president and a
secretary.
Named to plan the president’s
bus trip are Mrs Susan Lehman
and Mrs. Janet Kohler.
