Pork Congress

producers,” Henkel explained
John Saunders, Vice President of
the National Pork Producers’
Council,' will be visiting with the
Keystone producers during the
evening’s banquet He will be
setting the stage for a motivating
and inspiring presentation called
‘My America’ by Charles Plumb, a
war veteran.
Commercial exhibits for the
trade show have dropped slightly
this yeai due to economic trends,
confessed Henkel But eighty-one
exhibitors still will provide plenty
for producers to sample and study.
Mabel Strock, Porkette
President, is enthusiastic about
this year’s women’s program
during the Congress.
“We’re going to be concentrating
our topics on the main goals of the
Porkettes promotion and
nutrition,” she said. “Penn State’s
John Ziegler will be talking about
the nutritive value of pork. And
Joanne Ketterer, a home
economics teacher at Ship
pensburg High School, will be
demonstrating how to prepare
pork hors d’oeuvres ”
Strock emphasized the need for
more m-store promotion of pork by
the Porkettes, and noted this will
be one of the topics discussed
during the annual business
meeting. Other topics will include
the need for more organization in
the western part of Pennsylvania
along with the possibilities of a
commodity representative
queen or king
The Porkette’s day will close
with Abe Landes of Hatfield
Packing Company discussing the
use of pork in the school lunch
program.
“We’re trying to keep our
women’s program short so that it
doesn’t fill up the day,” Strock
concluded. “A lot of women are
involved in pork production
taking care of the farrowing bam
and other areas and they are
just as interested in the producer’s'
program ”
So, no matter what gender of
pork producer you are, the 3rd
Pennsylvania Pork Congress is a
sure bet for learning how to push
pork for profit.
