planning to put together an in
formation program on water
conservation, according to Tom
Johnston, administrator This
program will be geared toward the
residential areas, he said, like
faucet aeration and low-flow
shower heads that restrict the
amount of water to a two gallon per
minute flow to help reduce water
consumption
For farmland, Johnston pointed
out the District is continuing to
assist farmers with conservation

QUARRYVILLE - The Solanco
Young Fanners Association is
sponsoring a forage meeting
featuring infrared forage analysis.
The instrument to do this was
practices designed to hold water
and soil on cropland fields instead
of allowing it to run off.
And, with the current water
shortage, anything that increases
the available moisture for
agriculture and domestic use will
be welcome.—SM

U.S Department of Agriculture’s
Regional Pasture Research
Laboratory at Penn State.
This meeting will be held on
February 17, at 7.30 p.m. in the
Solanco High School Agriculture
classroom.
Shenk will explain the infrared
process and it’s possibilities in
nutrition, particularly the for
mulation of dairy rations.

to hold forage meeting
about noon on the 17th and working
in the van that houses the infrared
spectro computer will begin
analyzing forage samples from
local farms. He will complete a
maximum of 50 forage samples
during the afternoon. Samples
could be hay, haylage, corn silage,
high moisture com, or com gram.
During the evenmg meeting he
will review the results of the in
frared analysis with the farmers.
