this year a year that Lancaster
County 4-H clubs really grow,” she
said.
“We are offering a lot of 4-H
awareness programs because 4-H
is always changing and we are
trying to meet the needs of all
youths 4-H isn’t just for farm kids
anymore Our suburban and city
enrollment far outnumbers our
rural enrollment ”

program took place Thursday
morning, January 22, to senior
citizens in the New Holland area
The program, held at the Trinity
Lutheran Church, featured various

Said Nancy, ' Everyone enjoyed
that day The senior citizens really
like being shown what the kids are
doing and we helped make them
aware of 4-H’s role in their com

Maple syrup
UTITZ Is color an indication
ot flavor in maple syrup candy 7
No, say representatives of the
Maple Syrup Producers Color
isn’t even a factor considered in
judging. Judges look for con
sistency in texture and ap
pearance
Color is important in maple
syrup judging though. Judges
grade samples against light am
ber, medium amber and dark
amber chips of clear glass. A light
syrup is considered the finest by
the judges. Darker syrups have a
heavy flavor, which is preferred by
some people. It’s all a matter of
taste.
