tie up championships
DENVER, Colo. - A top
quality set of Polled
Hereford cattle and the
enthusiasm of overflow
crowds made the 58th
National Polled Hereford
Show the premier event of
the 1981 National Western
Stock Show.
The Diamond Anniversary
National Western hosted the
breed classic January 14-17
here, and drew some 5000
beef cattle enthusiasts to the
-277-hcad show
Lazy BL Viking 30K
capped off his second suc
cessful show season with the
coveted National cham
pionship. “Viking” came to
Denver with four SOP Show
championships to his name,
then moved to the National
Championship from the
senior champion slot
The champ, an April 1978
son of GK Spidel 515 C 56H, is
owned by Check Point
Ranches, Huson, Mont., and
Brian Larson and Harold
Anderson and Family, both
of Mabel, Minn
CK Miss Excitement 4,
owned by Glenkirk Farms,
Maysville, Mo , also used the
semoi championship as a
springboard to the National
championship in the 141-
head female competition
The National champion
female is a February 1979
daughter of Gold Standard
Sire Enforcer 107 H and is no
stranger to the tanbark At
the 57th National, she was
named reserve calf
champion.
The reserve grand
champion bull, BT PRL
Driver 536 L, is another well
known name in the winner’s
circle. He captured two SOP
reserve championships this
season and retained his title
at the National.
“Driver” is owned by
Beartooth Ranch, Columbus,
Mont.; Pondersa Ranch,

well in competition, and
accounted for two of the top
female spots
DJM Ms Covergirl 79,
owned by Mark Beasley,
Hawley, Texas, was an
Enforcer daughter who
moved to the reserve grand
championship from the
junior division Ms Covergirl
reigns as National Junior
Show champion and as
champion of the 1980 North
American Livestock Ex
position SOP Show.
Another Enforcer heifer

took the championship title
to make them two-time
winners in this unique event

Mo, is the owner of the

Beartooth Ranch added
another award to their string
of wins with a blue ribbon in
the get-of-sire class. Their
quartet of calves was sired
by Gold Trophy Sire BT LI
Advancer 12H and included
the reserve grand champion
bull and the reserve senior
champion heifer. For the
fifth consecutive year,
Beartooth received the
premier breeder award,
making a total of eight such
awards. Beartooth was also
named premier exhibitor.
The remaining blue rib
bons in the group classes
went to Overlook Farms for
their call get sired by
“Jogger” and to Glenkirk
Farm’s best six head.
The 58th National Polled
Hereford Show was judged
on the composite scormg
system by a panel of cat
