National Spring Hog Show
will be held at the stockyards
in West Friendship, Md,

when they were taken to a
Carroll County farm on
September 28. Some weigh
as much as 265 pounds today.
All were given the same
amount of feed each day in a
program designed to test
their genetic ability to grow.
The animals were entered
in the controlled test by 4-H
Club and Future Farmers of
America boys and girls as
well as adult hog breeders

taken to the Esskay meat
packing plant in Baltimore
where they will be carcass
evaluated by professors
from the Department of
Animal Science, University
of Maryland.
Cash prizes and ribbons
will be awarded in both the
live and carcass judging
contests
Thickness of ice on these
may vary considerably.
Many farm ponds will be
providing excellent ice
skating, but always make a
test of ice thickness and
other safety factors
Keep a straight ladder or
coil or rope handy for rescue
purposes
