Harold Kramer's planting practices this past year to make hts champion
yield of 254 7 bushel to the acre was as follows. The corn was planted on
fields that were rented for two years Having taken off hay the first year
one field was 15 acres and the other 10 acres and both planted in Muncy-
Chief 5X662 This year he plowed under a good three years alfalfa and
grass sod He used 200 pounds urea for plow down and no manure. Also,
he used in the corn planter 400 pounds of 15-15-15 fertilizer It should be
noted that 200 pounds of 10-20-20 would be closer to Penn State
recommendations, as high nitrogen and potash could injure the ger
mination of the seed Mr Kramer used 2V 2 to 3 pounds of Atrazme, along
with l*/z quarts of Lasso, and, sprayed one to two days after planting, he
had very good weed control. He did not mention as to whether he followed
with some cultivation or not The crop is being used as high moisture ear
corn for his dairy herd. Mr. Kramer plants approximately 200 acres of corn

On the field that Charles Kramer planted for Co-Champion one acre yield of
258 6 Bu to the acre of Muncy-Chief 5X662, this was a three acre field, also
rented away from the farm. This was hay and grass sod He used no manure but
applied 200 pounds of urea and then planted no-till with a John Deere Maxi
planter Charles had good germination and a good stand He used 500 pounds
15-15-15 fertilizer and it should be noted that this is higher than recommended
for nitrogen and potash in the row 200 pounds of 10-20-20 would have been
safer The spray program on this no-till field was 1 quart of paraquat, IV*
pounds Atrazme, and 2Vz pounds Bladex with 77 sticker. This was applied ten
days before planting and he had excellent weed control
