ANNAPOLIS, Md. - State
Apiary Inspector I. Barton
Smith, Jr. sounds a friendly
reminder to all beekeepers
in Maryland to check if they
have registered their
colonies for 1981.
“Beekeeping is an in
creasingly popular pastime,
and some of the new
beekeepers might not have
registered for 1981,” Smith
says. “The advantage of
registration is that the
Department of Agriculture
will know where all bee
colonies are so that they are
available for inspection as a
safeguard against bee
diseases,” he added
In 1980 some 163 instances
of bee disease were noted in
the state with such maladies
as American and European
Foulbrood, Chalkbood and
Poultry
