claimed a number of
championship trophies
during the 1981 Farm Show
Open Sheep contests, held
Sunday, Monday and
Tuesday.
Show judge Henry
Kuykendall, a Cheviot
breeder from Lebanon,
Virginia and past herdsman
of Erdenheim Farms,
Chester County, went to
Lancaster County’s Barbara
Herr and her Dorset entries
for both ram and ewe
champion
Herr’s champions were
fall lambs, sired by the same
Kenneth T. Moore, Nichols, N.Y., exhibited the
champion Hampshire ram at the 1981 Pennsylvania
Farm Show. Showing the sheep is daughter Doris
Powell, while grandson Richard, 7, holds the
champion plaque.

In previous shows, the 1981
Farm Show champion ram
was tagged the best Dorset
ram of the Junior Dorset
show at Louisville, while the
ewe was the 1980 Farm Show
champ
This will be Herr’s last
year for Farm Show com
petition. She explained she
will be attending Ohio State
University next year,
studying agriculture
education.
In the Hampshire Open
Sheep Show, Lancaster
County’s Brubakers
exhibited three out of four
champions and swept the
group classes.
Clyde and Dorothy
Brubaker of Harrisburg
Pike, Lancaster, showed the
champion Hampshire ewe
and the reserve champion
Hampshire ram
They also won the blues for
Breeders Young Flock, Pen
of Lambs, Get of Sire, and
Flock.
Daughter Sarah Brubaker
took the reserve champion
ewe honors with her yearling
ewe. Last Fall at Louisville,
this ewe placed second in the
Junior Hampshire Show
All the Brubaker champs
were sired by one ram, a
three-year-old called New
Dimensions.
The Open Shropshire Show
champs went to exhibitors
from Adams and Berks
Counties.
riecKy Darcey, of Spring
Bottom Farm, Fairfield,
Adams County, exhibited the
champion ram, a spring
lamb sired by Menhennette
563. Her February ewe, by
the same sire, was tagged
reserve champion ewe by
Judge Kuykendall.
Sprmg Bottom Farm also
claimed the majority of
group classes in the
Shropshire show, taking first
place in Breeders Young
Flock, Pen of Lambs, and
Get of Sire
The champion Shropshire
ewe came from William E.
Yoder’s flock The ewe adds

record of victories, having
been selected champion at
the Keystone International
Livestock Exposition,
Harrisburg 'and North
American International
Livestock Expostion,

on his farm near Kutztown
for the past three years. He
said he attributes his success
in breeding these champion
sheep to the advice and
guidance he received from
Robert Herr and family,
owners of Nix Besser Farm,
Narvon
Fifteen-year-old Bill
MacCauley of R 1 Akron,
Chester County, tied up the
Suffolk ewe championships
with his twm February
lambs.
