to address
Union meeting
GRANTVILLE - The
head of the 6000 member
Farmers Union Milk
Marketing Cooperative of
Madison, Wisconsin, will
address delegates of the
Peiinsylvnaia Farmers
Union at their Ninth Annual
Convention January 19-20,
1981
Douglas J. Caruso,
general manager of the
cooperative, will speak prior
to the luncheon Monday. A
question and answer session
will follow. FUMMC is a
marketing and bargaining
association of dairy fanners
covering Wisconsin, Min
nesota, lowa, Illinois and
Michigan
Caruso, who has managed
the organization since his
appointment in January
1978, is a graduate of the
University of Wisconsin at
Madison The 30 year old
Caiuso also serves on the
U S Agricultural and
Technical Advisorv Com
mittee on Dairy Products
A. graduate oi the
University of Wisconsin at
Madison, he originally began
wo r kmg for the cooperative
ni 1973 as information
director and marketing
specialist Caruso worked in
that capacity for four years
before leaving to work in
Washington, D C
Caruso recently was asked
by Agriculture Secretary
Robert Bergland and U.S
Trade Representative
Reubm Askew to continue
advising government trade
negotiators through the
Agricultural Technical
Advisory Committee on
Dairy Products He was
originally appointed to the
committee, created under
the Trade Act of 1974, in
March 1978 to advise the U.S.
team at the GATT
Multilateral Trade
Negotiations in Geneva,
Switzerland
The Oconto, Wisconsin
native represents American
dairy farmers’ interests as a
U. S. Member of the dairy
committee of the In
ternational Federation of
Agricultural Producers
Wisconsin Secretary of
Agriculture Gary Rohde
appointed Caruso to the
Wisconsin Dairy Advisory
Council in March 1978,
“Milk is an extremely
important commodity to
Pennsylvania. We are
pleased to have Caruso
address our delegation,”
said Farmers Union
Director Leonard Zemaitis.

served the Farmers Union,
but he is one of the country’s
leading authorities on dairy
pricing mechanisms ”

on a 200-acre dairy farm in
western Wisconsin, began
his broadcasting career in
1952 Today he’s one of the

spokesmen for agriculture,
reaching the vast Midwest
farming area with daily
radio shows and appearing
weekly on nearly 100
television stations across the
country with his syndicated
show, “U.S. Farm Report.”

include updates on cultural
practices for corn and
