Todd Bennecoff, 13, exhibited the champion Hampshire bred gilt. Todd and
his father, Terry, have 40 sows of both the Hampshire and Berkshire breeds
James Parlett, Airville, tied up the Chester White bred gilt championship for
the sixth time in Farm Show competition. Twin Maples Farm also took the
reserve champion honors. Both champs were sired by Tarzan.

Little Jim Nelan 111 got his feet wet in the Yorkshire swine show ring at the
early age of four. The youngest showman in this year’s Farm Show is the son of
Joan and Jim Nelan of West Alexander.

The champion was sired
by Bandit, a boar owned by
Homan, out of a litter of pigs
farrowed by a gilt purchased
by Homan at Farm Show two
years ago. Those were
Homan’s first Spots, and
he’s been bringing their pigs
back to Farm Show each
year since.
The reserve champion
Spotted Swine was exhibited
by Hobart Muller of R 2 New
Oxford, Adams County, in

Halifax. Assisting his father with the show swine was 8-year-old Garth, who said
he’s been showing hogs half his life.

Calvin Lazarus and Sons,
Whitehall, swept the
Yorkshire contest, taking
both the champion and
reserve champion honors
The Lehigh County swine
breeders’ champion was
their January entry. Im
perial’s Miss Elite, sired by
Legend. This marks the
eighteenth year of showing
at Farm Show for the
Lazarus family. However,
this is the first year they took
both champions.
Their reserve champion,
Imperial’s Miss Patton, was
sired by the same boar as the
champion, and her dam is a
sister to the champion’s
dam. Lazarus explained
their grand dam set the
record at the 1978 Farm
Show bred gilt sale for high
selling gilt, bringing $B5O
she was purchased by the
Lazarus family.
The champion Landrace
gilt was shown by John
Mummert, 19, of R 1 Seven
Valleys, York County. She
was the entry of Tunnel Hill
Farm, operated by John’s
mother, and his brothers and
sisters. They’ve been raising
purebred Landrace swine
for the past ten years and
have had two Farm Show
champions here in the past
six years.

DEO Cibbe.
The reserve champion
Landrace gilt was shown by
Mark Stehr, Brooks End
Farm, Beavertown, Snyder
County. The gilt’s, Belinda,
is co-owned with Reno and
Park Thomas
The January gilt is sired
by an Irish import boar,
Royal Eros, and out of a
Scotch dam. She is bred to an
imported Scotch boar, ac
cording to Stehr, and is due
to farrow February 13.
